I love living here and I think we (Vermonters) are way ahead of the rest of the country in our ideas about food, taking care of this place and each other. It's why I love this place and why I choose to live here. We have an amazing music scene here as well and last night's show at Higher Ground was perfect exmaple of what makes Vermont special...
In case you have not heard the story, Pete's Green's, an organically certified vegetable farm in Craftsbury, Vermont had a huge fire that destroyed a barn full of equipment, harvested crops and a tractor trailer full of meats.
An outpouring of support from the community for Pete's has been incredible and it makes me proud to live here.
A benefit called "Hug Your Farmer," was put together at Higher Ground on Thursday night that featured some of the area's best musicians for an all star jam. There were so many musicians there that I am not going to even begin to name them all. The show, put together in a couple of weeks, sold out in no time with 100% of ticket sales going to Pete's Green's. The show raised over $24,000 for the farm... Amazing!!
Pete Johnson, of Pete's Greens, got up on stage to thank the crowd for their support and said that they planned on paying the generosity forward by setting up a disaster relief fund for farms and contribute to the farm to school movement when they get back on thier feet.
